Abstract

Addressing the historical and contemporary challenge of providing sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to everyone remains a major global concern, particularly in the twenty-first century. In the East Africa region, both emerging and established technologies offer potential solutions to this pressing issue. This research explores the critical role of innovation and technology in transforming food systems in East Africa. To meet the Sustainable Development Goals for ending hunger and improving food systems by 2030, new and existing scientific and technological applications must address all aspects of food security. This study investigates how innovation and technology can enhance food security in East Africa, utilizing a range of relevant literature and case studies alongside key theoretical frameworks. It aims to bridge the gap between policy formulation and implementation, ultimately contributing to more productive and resilient food systems within the East African Community (EAC).
