Abstract

This study assessed the influence of instructional technology on the secondary school students’ academic achievement in biology in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, Nigeria. The population comprised all the selected secondary school students in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State from which 100 respondents were randomly selected as sample from 5secondary schools. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaires which were administered to the students. The data gathered from different schools were analyzed using simple percentage statistics and nonparametric statistic of chi square was used to test the research hypotheses. Results of the study showed that Most of the secondary schools have instructional technology facilities. Instructional technology enhances the learning ability, provide best learning environment. Instructional technology enables students to have positive attitude to teaching and learning and also the use of instructional technology is compatible with teaching and learning of biology. Based on the findings, the government personnel such as curriculum planner and educational policy maker are advice to encourage the use and provision of instructional technology that relate to teaching subject in secondary school. Orientation programme should be organized for the student in order to change their attitude towards the use of instructional technology and also, the Weekly or monthly seminar should be organized for the teachers and the school leader in order to help them to have proper insight and knowledge on how integration of instructional technology will help student outside the classroom.
