Overview

ABSTRACT

This project is titled design and construction of numeric keypad lock. It is design to meet up with the security demand of properties against theft.

Numeric keypad lock is an electronic locking device which operates by means of electric current. Electric locks are sometimes stand-alone with an electronic control assembly mounted directly to the lock. More often electric locks are connected to an access control system. The advantages of an electric lock connected to an access control system include: key control, where keys can be added and removed without re-keying the lock cylinder; fine access control, where time and place are factors; and transaction logging, where activity is recorded.

Perhaps the most prevalent form of electronic lock is that using a numerical code for authentication; the correct code must be entered in order for the lock to deactivate. Such locks typically provide a keypad, and some feature an audible response to each press. Combination lengths are usually between 4 and 6 digits long.

Numeric keypad lock is designed to activate or open a circuit a system when the right code is entered and to remain dormant when the wrong code is pressed once or two times, but when it is pressed for the third time it beeps indicating an unauthorized user. The system makes use of 12V supply and NAND-gate integrated circuits.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

Traditional lock systems using mechanical lock and key mechanism are being replaced by new advanced techniques of locking system. These techniques are an integration of mechanical and electronic devices and highly intelligent. One of the prominent features of these innovative lock systems is their simplicity and high efficiency.  Such an automatic lock system consists of electronic control assembly which controls the output load through a password. This output load can be a motor or a lamp or any other mechanical/electrical load. Here we develop an electronic code lock system using 4081 IC, which provides control to the actuating the load. It is a system with input from the keyboard and the output being actuated accordingly. This system demonstrates a password based door lock system wherein once the correct code or password is entered, the door is opened and the concerned person is allowed access to the secured area. Again if another person arrives it will ask to enter the password. If the password is wrong then door would remain closed, denying the access to the person.

1.1                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The objective of this work is to design a security door device that can be use to control a door when the right password is pressed using a keypad.

1.2                         ADVANTAGES OF NUMERIC DOOR LOCK SYSTEM

  • This project provides security
  • Power consumption is less
  • Used commonly available components
  •  Project is simple and easy

1.3                                         APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT

  • This simple circuit can be used at residential places to ensure better safety.
  • It can be used at organizations to ensure authorized access to highly secured places.
  • With a slight modification this Project can be used to control the switching of loads through password.
1.4                                           LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
Limitations of numeric Door Lock System are:
  • It is a low range circuit, i.e. it is not possible to operate the circuit remotely.
  • If you forget the password it is not possible to open the door.
