CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Indicators provide critical information on performance, achievement and accountability, which is the cornerstone of effective monitoring and evaluation.
DEFINITION OF WATER LEVEL INDICATOR
Water Level Indicator may be defined as a system by which we can get the information of any water reservoir. Water level indicator system is quite useful to reduce the wastage of water from any reservoir, while filling such reservoir. Water is most essential thing on earth. Safe drinking water is essential to human and other life forms even though it provides no calories or organic nutrients. The total amount of water available on Earth has been estimated at 1.4 billion cubic kilometers, enough to cover the planet with a layer of about 3 km. About 95% of the Earth’s
Water is in the oceans, which is unfit for human consumption. About 4% is locked in the polar ice caps, and the rest 1% constitutes all fresh water found in rivers, streams and lakes which is suitable for our consumption. A study estimated that a person in India consumes an average of 135 litres per day. This consumption would rise by 40% by the year 2025. This signifies the need to preserve our fresh water resources
Measurement of the height of water in a tank or a big structure such as dam is a major subject of study in engineering. It is not easy to measure the water level in large architectural structures physically. Hence we always have the necessity of an electronic equipment that can measure the water level in a container and show a message informing us about the water level in it. Sustainability of available water resource in many reason of the word is now a dominant issue. This problem is quietly related to poor water allocation, inefficient use, and lack of adequate and integrated water management. Water is commonly used for agriculture, industry, and domestic consumption. Therefore, efficient use and water monitoring are potential constraint for home or office water management system. Last few decades several monitoring system integrated with water level detection have become accepted. Measuring water level is an essential task for government and residence perspective. In this way, it would be possible to track the actual implementation of such initiatives with integration of various additional controlling activities. Therefore, water level indicating system implementation makes potential significance in home applications. Such an indicator is used in tanks to indicate the level of liquids and alert us when the tank is full. So by this circuit we can monitor the various levels of the tank and can avoid spillage of water and also we can configure our supplies according to the various levels of tank. Such module or circuit can be installed in big buildings where manual monitor of tanks is difficult and its indicator can be placed at some centralized place. This device is built on a microcontroller – ARDUINO UNO, readings are displayed using a 16×2 LCD and water level limit is notified by a noise of the buzzer.
1.1 AIM OF THE STUDY
To construct an electronic device that can automatically detect water level and display the level via LCD using Arduino ultrasonic sensor. Most times we can’t detect the level of the water available in our overhead tank, which can lead to scarcity of water in the sense that we do not know the water level so they can be shortage of water at any time or water overflow while pumping water into the overhead tank, causing wastage of water and power supply, which leads to the purpose of this study, to know the precise level of water in our overhead tank
1.2 OBJECTIVES
- To achieve equitable and secure access to water for drinking, sanitation and domestic needs at affordable costs for all households or company within the project area.
- To control the supply of water.
- To study the controller model and observe its characteristics.
- To compare the controller with the conventional controllers available in market
1.3 APPLICATION OF THE STUDY
This device is used in the following:
- overhead water tanks,
- swimming pool boilers,
- factories,
- chemical plants,
- Electrical substations and also in other liquid storage systems.
