Nigeria has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and security in the West African region through its active participation in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). However, the country has struggled with numerous internal conflicts that pose a significant threat to its own security. This research examines Nigeria’s role in addressing crises in West Africa and the impact of internal conflicts on its security.
Using a survey research design and convenient sampling technique, 200 respondents from various segments of the population were selected to participate in the study. The reliability and validity of the research were ensured through the test-retest method. The results reveal a statistically significant (p=0.00) and strong (r=0.849) correlation between multiple internal problems and security levels in Nigeria.
This study highlights the need for Nigeria to address its internal conflicts to maintain regional security and stability. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders in developing effective strategies to mitigate the impact of internal conflicts on national security.
